Whale spotting guide

You've found an excellent place to observe whales migrating along the NSW East Coast.

Whales migrate to these areas.

(NSW NPWS)

The majority of whales migrating in Australia are Humpback Whales. These are the most commonly spotted, though you may also see the occasional Minke, Southern Right, Blue, or Orca.

Greenpeace has some good information on whale identification (but you'll probably need binoculars to see the differences). Download the Greenpeace whale spotting guide and you might find out who's frolicking out there.

About the Bazaar

Black Head Bazaar is a local market that is held on the first Sunday of the month, from September to May, in Wylie Breckenridge Park at Black Head.

The Bazaar is organised by Black Head Bazaar Inc to raise money for local community, environmental and beautification projects. Its volunteers also do Landcare activities in Black Head and Red Head.

Held under the shady trees of beautiful Wylie Breckenridge Park, the Bazaar has a variety of stalls including handmade clothing, jewellery, plants, collectables, meats and freshly-picked farm fruit and veggies. There's a great selection of food and coffee.

The First Bazaar
The first was held on Easter Sunday 1991 in the park near Black Head Lagoon. There were only eight stalls and the profit was thirty dollars. The market slowly grew and spread to the eastern end, and later to the western end, of Wylie Breckenridge Park. It is a popular regional market.

HP Public School veggie garden
In 2010, we built a veggie garden at the school. Volunteers guide the children in propagating and planting veggies and herbs. The harvest goes home with the kids or to the school's canteen.

Our Bloomin' Lot
In 2014,we received approval to operate a garden and nursery for the benefit of our members. It's located on land generously provided by Jim Dixon south of the Foodworks building and we call it "Our Bloomin' Lot".

We've installed raised garden beds, planted native plants to help control drainage and removed weeds. We've has also installed an eye-catching bamboo shade structure that will provide shelter for propagating native seeds and plants. Native plants and trees raised in the nursery will be used in local regeneration projects.
